03 Jun Arnold’s 6 Rules For Success
Somehow I ended up on a YouTube video where Arnold you-know-who was discussing his “6 rules for success.”
Have you heard about these 6 rules?
They are powerful. And they apply to just about everything in life.
If you know anything about Arnold Schwarzenegger, then you know he has achieved an unbelievable amount of success in life.
We can learn a lot from his “success blueprint” – so here it is. 6 simple rules.
Back when I was a teenager I read a book and it changed my life.
I’ve written about the impact of this book now many times.
I read “Arnold, The Education of a Bodybuilder” and it opened my eyes about many things, beyond just bodybuilding. The first half of the book is his story and rise to fame as a bodybuilder.
It contained so much more.
The book shared his vision for what was to come.
Literally decades after reading this book, I stumbled onto a popular YouTube video by Arnold (“the video that broke the internet“) and I noted the important lessons he shared.
I’ll share those lessons with you now.
I have no idea how I cam across this video.
All I know is that I did and it sat in an “open window” on my desktop computer for about week or more before I even watched it.
I didn’t plan to write this…
But after taking notes, this was something very valuable to share.
Arnold is one of the most successful humans this world has ever seen.
He shot for the moon and reached the stars.
The points he made in the video are simple concepts that have the potential for massive impact.
Consider them and how each rule can apply to you in your life.
(Below are the points and statements he made during his video presentation).
ARNOLD’S 6 RULES FOR SUCCESS
RULE #1-HAVE A VISION
The first rule of success is to have a vision.
If you have no goal or vision, you drift around and you won’t end up anywhere.
The first rule of success is to have a vision. If you have no goal or vision, you drift around and you won’t end up anywhere. - Arnold SchwarzeneggerClick To TweetI was very fortunate, I stumbled onto my vision. My parents had a different vision than I did.
I felt I was born for something big.
Do you know how great it felt that I knew where I was going? The majority of people don’t know where they are going.
When you have a vision, everything becomes easy.
74% of people hate their job in America and people aimlessly drift around.
If you think about it, only a quarter of the people really enjoy what they are doing in life. This is unbelievable.
When you enjoy what you’re doing, it’s not work.
I had a goal…I was shooting for a goal and every rep brought me closer to my goal.
I could’t wait to lift.
You must have a purpose, no matter what you do in life.
RULE #2-DON’T LISTEN TO THE NAY-SAYERS
Everything I ever did, I heard “that’s impossible, that can’t be done.”
When they said “it can’t be done” – I heard “it CAN be done.”
When they said no, I heard yes.
[NOTE the brilliance in: “They said ___, I heard ___.”)
I decided I was going to do something and I didn’t listen to the nay-sayers.
RULE #3-WORK YOUR ASS OFF
There is no magic pill.
You have to work.
It drives me crazy when people say there is no time to go to the gym and workout.
Imagine if you read one hour a day, how much you would learn in 365 hours (reading an hour a day every day for a year)?
What if you worked on the business that you wanted to develop every day for an hour?
How much further along would you be?
How much time will you have available if you organize your day?
I was working construction, I went to acting class, and I worked out every day to get where I wanted to go.
You can’t get around hard work.
Think about this statement, “Early to bed, early to rise, work like hell and advertise.” – Ted Turner
Work hard and let people know.
RULE #4-THERE IS NO “PLAN B”
I hate plan B.
We have so many doubters.
But, when you doubt yourself, it’s very dangerous.
If you say, “If my plan doesn’t work, I have a fall-back. I have a plan B.”
This takes away from plan A.
It’s not good because people perform better if there’s no safety net.
It’s very dangerous to have a plan B because you’re cutting yourself off from the chance of really succeeding.
People want plan B because they are worried about failing.
But…
RULE #5-DON’T BE AFRAID TO FAIL
Don’t be afraid of failing because there’s nothing wrong with failing.
You have to fail to climb the ladder.
There is no one that doesn’t fail.
We all fail and it’s ok.
What is not ok is that when you fail, you stay down.

What is not ok is that when you fail, you stay down. -Arnold Schwarzenegger Click To TweetWinners will fail and they get up, losers will fail and they stay down.
You always get up, that is a winner.
Don’t be worried about losing because when you’re afraid of losing you get frozen, you get stiff, you’re not relaxed.
To perform well (in anything), you have to relax.
RULE #6-HELP OTHERS AND GIVE BACK
How can you help others around you?
Everyone has a different motivation to give back.
I saw such generosity when I came to America.
Other people helped me when I had nothing.
I said, I need to make sure that I give something back.
Give back and help others around you.
SUMMARY POINTS:
RULE #1-HAVE A CLEAR VISION
RULE #2-DON’T LISTEN TO NAY-SAYERS
RULE #3-WORK YOUR ASS OFF
RULE #4-THERE IS NO “PLAN B”

If you’re interested in watching the video, here it is.
Hope you’ve found these lessons as valuable as I have.
Most of these rules go against conventional wisdom, am I right?
That’s what makes them so powerful.
Have the courage to be bold.
Think bigger and don’t play small.
