12 Apr It’s Not About the Kettlebell.
It’s not about the kettlebell, it’s about what the kettlebell will do for you.
I try to make this point very clear to people all the time. What are your fitness goals? Take some time and think about it for a minute. No matter what answer you came up with, I can virtually guarantee you could accomplish any goal you wanted with the simplicity of Russian Kettlebells.
Is this a bold statement? No, I don’t think it is. If you’re not training with kettlebells realize this, whatever health, fitness, and performance goal you have, they can be significantly enhanced with kettlebell training.
Maybe you don’t know enough about them. Maybe you have some kind of perception about them and seem skeptical. Who could blame you really? I mean fitness fads come and go all the time, isn’t this just another one? After almost 30 years of personal experience in fitness and weight training myself, I say no way is this a fad. As a matter of fact, I see it continuing to grow as more and more people discover the benefits of kettlebell training.
I go back to the question, what are your fitness goals?
- To look better?
- To lose the extra (10-20 pounds) weight?
- To be stronger?
- To have more energy?
- To look fit and in shape?
- To be more physically attractive?
- To have more self confidence?
- To look more sexy or buff?
- To feel good about yourself?
- To get in the best shape of your life?
- To be a role model?
- To have the time to exercise and have fun with it?
- To perform at your best in everything you do?
- To be better conditioned for a competitive sport?
- To “injury proof” your body? (yep, I said it.)
All of the above can be achieved with the kettlebell.
Kettlebell training can be your whole training system or it can be a major component of your training approach to get you to the fitness goals you want. The kettlebell teaches your body how to move and perform in an efficient and highly effective manner.
This type of training is also a ‘master skill.’ What I mean by that is that it’s something you can continually improve on and get better at to achieve ‘mastery.’ Kettlebells will teach you a lot about yourself and how you move. And by achieving this, the goals above can be accomplished.
Maybe I’m a little extreme in my viewpoint, but I feel it’s the absolute truth. I’ve immersed myself in kettlebell training now for only the last 2 years or so and what I say is what I have discovered myself. Don’t forget, I’ve been committed to weight training for nearly 30 years, and I’ve found that there is NOTHING that compares to this type of training method, in my opinion.
It is that good or I wouldn’t be writing this. Now, I’m also not saying that other training methods are inadequate. There are many great training methods that I feel are very complimentary to kettlebell training and certainly dumbbells and barbells are effective. But I’ll tell you, for as long as I’m able to train, I will always integrate kettlebells in my training system, no doubt about it. It’s a skill that you can improve on and grow from for the rest of your life.
So, even if you’re still skeptical about training with kettlebells, we’re all interested in achieving all or some of the things I’ve mentioned above. I say again, it’s not about the kettlebell, it’s about what the kettlebell will do for YOU, remember that.
Now, visit your local HKC or RKC certified instructor and learn the right way to train and change your life. I can guarantee, you’ll be glad you did.
