28 Dec Strength Matters.

KettlebellNo matter what your health or fitness goals are, strength matters.

Many people underestimate how important physical strength truly is.

As you age, guess what you lose?

That’s right, strength.

It’s all about getting stronger.

Actually, it’s really about 2 things, movement and strength.  You need to be move well and you need to move stronger.

We all do, there’s no question about it.

But, most people simply do not understand how important physical strength is.

You may be thinking, “well, I don’t care to be strong, I’m doing fine and don’t want to be stronger, I just want to be more fit.”

Let me tell you something, the stronger you are physically, the stronger you are in life.  And, studies prove it.

You’ve heard the saying “only the strong survive.”  Well, this is absolutely “spot on.”

Check this out.

There was a study published in the British Medical Journal that suggests that if you are in the top 3rd in terms of physical strength, you are less likely to die from all causes including disease, accident, or something else.

And as expected, if you were in the lower 3rd, you were more likely to die faster!

A correlation between strength and mortality, huh?  That’s very powerful, if you ask me.

If you’re stronger, you’re much less likely to fall and significantly injure yourself, as many people do in the older populations, unfortunately.

Strength matters for all of us.

As I’ve advanced in my own training (over 30 years of weight training) I’ve come to the conclusion that strength trumps everything else.

You want fat loss?

You want more muscle?

You want to lose weight?

You want to look better, feel better, and perform better?

Well then, you need to be stronger, plain and simple.

I absolutely love this quote from one of my own mentors and instructors, Master kettlebell instructor and renowned strength coach, Brett Jones.

Brett said,  “Absolute strength is the glass.  Everything else is the liquid in the glass.  The bigger the glass, the more of everything else you can do.” (-from the book Intervention by Dan John.)

This statement couldn’t be more true.

Getting stronger and getting better results through strength training is what this site is all about.

RdellaTraining™  is a brand that is about applying the best methods to strength training for the best results, period.

There’s also the 6 pillars of RdellaTraining™.

The 6 pillars are:

  • Results,
  • Determination,
  • Excellence,
  • Leadership,
  • Learning, and
  • Authentic.  (I’ll tell you more about all this soon.)

Forget all the fluff and BS out there and let’s focus on the fundamentals, shall we?

Strength training is the pillar for the results you want and I’ll prove it.

Sure, this is a bit of a contrarian approach compared to what most people believe, but I can tell you that the best coaches and fitness professionals in world agree on the importance of strength training for optimal health and fitness.

With new, specific articles, videos, and, of course the new name Podcast (The RdellaTraining™ Podcast), I’ll share with you things that will get you stronger and get you better results, if you follow the principles.

I’ll end this article with a great quote from the legendary Mark Rippetoe (Author of many books on strength training, including the great book Starting Strength.)

Mark said, “Physical strength is the most important thing in life.”
